Alex Pheby

Alex Pheby was born in Essex and moved to Worcester in his early childhood. He studied at Manchester University, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Goldsmiths. His second novel Playthings, a hallucinatory, fragmentary, and tragic fictional telling of the life of German judge Paul Schreber, is a visceral and darkly comic portrait of paranoid schizophrenia. Originally published in 2015 in the UK, it was acclaimed in media from the Guardian to the New York Times, and called “the best neuro-novel ever written” in the Literary Review. Biblioasis has just released Playthings in Canada. Pheby lives in London, UK, where he teaches at the University of Greenwich.
