Lawrence Hill

Lawrence Hill is the mixed-race son of American immigrants who came to Canada the day after they married. His novel The Book of Negroes won the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book and both CBC Radio’s Canada Reads and Radio-Canada’s Combat des livres; Hill co-wrote a six-part television miniseries based on the novel. His latest novel, The Illegal (HarperCollins), tells of an undocumented refugee, a champion marathon runner, who struggles to survive in a nation that does not want him. Hill was recently appointed to the Order of Canada. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario, and Woody Point, Newfoundland.
