Writers
Garry Thomas Morse grew up on the BC coast and now makes his home in Winnipeg. He has published several collections of poetry, notably Discovery Passages, about his Kwakwaka’wakw Indigenous ancestors, shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award and the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, and Prairie Harbour, also shortlisted for a Governor General’s Award. An equally adventurous prose writer, he has twice been shortlisted for the national Re-Lit Award for fiction. His new book, Yams Do Not Exist (Turnstone), blends Beckett, Kafka, Dante, and Margaret Laurence to create a surreal and satiric story of picaresque prairie misadventures. Méira Cook calls the novel “a marvel of witty discord.”
