Michael Kusugak grew up in Repulse Bay, NWT (now Nunavut). A master storyteller, Kusugak draws on his traditional Inuit childhood and switches easily between English and Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit. He is the author of twelve children’s books, including The Littlest Sled Dog, The Curse of the Shaman, T is for Territories, Baseball Bats for Christmas, and Northern Lights: The Soccer Trails, winner of the Ruth Schwartz Award. His first book, now thirty years in print, is the much-loved A Promise Is a Promise, co-written with Robert Munsch. Kusugak lives in Sooke BC, and spends most summers in his cabin in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.
