Steven Ross Smith

Steven Ross Smith is one of Canada’s preeminent sound poets. He is also one of the few poets in Canada currently engaged in writing a life-poem (a long poem that encompasses a life). His latest book, Emanations: fluttertongue 6 (BookThug), is the sixth chapter of that project. Smith has published poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, written an opera libretto, and recorded his sound poetry. Raised in the Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto, he was the force behind Sage Hill for many years, then the Director of Literary Arts at The Banff Centre.  He still lives in Banff, AB, but is currently writer-in-residence at the U of M’s Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture.
