Renée Sarojini Saklikar

Trained as a lawyer, Renée Sarojini Saklikar teaches creative writing at Simon Fraser University and Vancouver Community College. Her elegiac poetry collection, children of air india, won the Canadian Authors Association Award for poetry, and her second book, with Wayde Compton, The Revolving City: 51 Poems and the Stories Behind Them, was a finalist for a City of Vancouver Book Award. With Dr. Mark L. Winston, she published Listening to the Bees (Nightwood), a multi-genre meditation on the tension of being an individual living in a society and the devastation wrought by overly intensive management of agricultural and urban habitats. Saklikar is currently the Poet Laureate of Surrey, BC.
