Jim Johnstone

Jim Johnstone is a Toronto-based writer and physiologist. His work has received numerous awards, including Arc Poetry Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award, a CBC Literary Award, the E.J. Pratt Medal in Poetry, Matrix’s Lit POP Award, and the Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize, and he won This Magazine’s Great Canadian Literary Hunt. He co-founded the chapbook imprint Cactus Press and curated the poetry collection The Next Wave for Palimpsest Press. His most recent poetry collection, The Chemical Life (Véhicule Press), is an exploration of mental illness and addiction. He is this year’s recipient of the Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award Contest, presented by Prairie Fire, for his poem, “Identity as an Infinity Mirror.
