James Laxer

James Laxer is the award-winning author of more than twenty-five books, including the #1 national bestseller Tecumseh and Brock: The War of 1812, Stalking an Elephant: My Discovery of America, and The Border: Canada, the US, and Dispatches from the Forty-Ninth Parallel. His latest book, Staking Claims to a Continent (Anansi), looks at three political leaders who presided over the reshaping of the North American continent during the fiery 1860s: President Abraham Lincoln; Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States; and John A. MacDonald. James Laxer is a professor of political science in the Department of Equity Studies at York University and lives in Toronto.
