Deborah Ellis

Deborah Ellis has moved countless readers, both young adult and adult, with her fiction and non-fiction. She confirmed her reputation with The Breadwinner trilogy, a fictional portrait of children’s lives in Afghanistan which has sold hundreds of thousands of copies internationally in seventeen languages. Recent non-fiction titles include Three Wishes: Palestinian and Israeli Children Speak; Off to War: Voices of Soldiers’ Children; and Children of War: Voices of Iraqi Children (Groundwood 2009). Her books have won numerous awards, including the Ruth Schwartz Award, the Jane Addams’ Peace Award, and the Governor General’s Award. Ellis lives in Toronto.
