Filipino-Canadian author C.E. Gatchalian’s plays have appeared on stages nationally and internationally, and he is the 2013 recipient of the Dayne Ogilvie Prize, awarded annually by The Writers’ Trust of Canada to an LGBT writer of merit. He is the former Artistic Producer of the frank theatre company and an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia. His latest book, the memoir Double Melancholy: Art, Beauty, and the Making of a Brown Queer Man (Arsenal Pulp), is a love letter to art, but also an embattled examination of its oppressive complicity with the society that produces it, and the depths to which art both enriches and colonizes us.
He lives in Vancouver.
