Karen Clavelle

Karen Clavelle is a poet, writer, playwright, and educator, and has long been involved with chapbook publishing in Winnipeg. In her debut poetry collection, Iolaire (Turnstone), she weaves a sensitive story around letters and news clippings from the horrific sinking of the HMS Iolaire. The collection was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Award, the Lansdowne Poetry Prize, and the Mary Scorer Book Award. Her forthcoming book, The Mother Goose Letters (At Bay Press), takes a whimsical look at migration from the vantage point of a runaway Mother Goose corresponding with her most famous nursery rhyme characters. Clavelle, who lives in Winnipeg, recently won the John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Writer.
