Maria Mutch

Maria Mutch is a Canadian writer whose memoir, Know the Night: A Memoir of Survival in the Small Hours, was a finalist the Governor General’s Literary Awards and was listed in The Globe & Mail’s Top 100 and MacLean’s Best Reads. The Toronto Star calls her debut collection of stories, When We Were Birds (Simon & Schuster), “fierce, brutal, visceral and gorgeous,” and notes in her work “the dark arts of Angela Carter, combining elements of gruesome fairy tale, an emphasis on the corporeal and a critical feminist lens on the world…These are stories that thrum with weird, otherworldly power.” Mutch lives in Rhode Island.
