On behalf of Plume Winnipeg’s board of directors, the writers we celebrate, and the audience who supports us,
I am delighted to welcome Laura Meuckon as our new Executive Director!
When Plume Winnipeg’s beloved director Charlene Diehl retired in December 2025 after 23 years at the helm, she left a vibrant, culturally important organization with a rich history of bringing great literature to Manitoban readers while uplifting the careers of countless local, national, and international writers. Finding the right person to continue that work while exploring some new directions was the top priority for our Search Committee, and we feel proud to have chosen Laura from a large pool of excellent candidates.

Along with her insightful administrative, communication, and problem-solving skills, Laura brings solid relationships with diverse Manitoban communities through her interested listening and ability to draw out and hold safe space for unheard voices. I’m confident her exciting ideas and warm energy will guide Plume securely into our next 30 years.
Laura identifies as a creative specialist whose career has centred on community-based storytelling in the media. She began her studies in screenwriting at York University before transitioning to broadcasting, where she found her perfect fit as a journalist and television producer.
Over the past 25 years, Laura has worked in many roles within the local media industry, including writer, producer, reporter, director, and marketing and promotions specialist. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about storytelling, audience connection, and strategic creative development.
Laura lives with her husband and two school-aged children in Winnipeg. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, making art, and collecting vintage décor.
Laura’s first priority as she begins her work is to find a team member to serve as Programming Coordinator in planning the Thin Air Festival for Fall 2026. If you are interested in this part-time term position, please see the job description here.
