Orysia Tracz is a writer, translator, and speaker. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The Globe and Mail, Winnipeg Free Press, Prairie Fire, University of Manitoba Alumni Journal, Prairie Garden, Canadian [Antiques] Collector, and Forum: a Ukrainian Review. She has lectured on varied subjects including Ukrainian folk medicine and the erotic symbolism in Ukrainian folk songs, and she frequently leads folk art and culture tours in Ukraine. Her book First Star I See Tonight (Mazepa) is an illustrated guide to Ukrainian Christmas traditions. She retired from the University of Manitoba Libraries in September 2010 and lives in Winnipeg.
