W D Valgardson

W D Valgardson is a novelist, short story writer, and poet. Of his novels, Gentle Sinners, won the Books in Canada First Novel Award, The Girl wit hteh Botticelli Face was recognized with the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, and his children’s book, Thor, won the Mr Christie Book Award. his new book, a story collection called What the Bear Said: Skald Tales from new Iceland (Turnstone), returns to Manitoba’s myth-soaked Interlake region where Valgardson grew up. Valgardson taught writing at the University of Victoria for many years, and continues to live on the west coast. He is the editor of Lögberg-Heimskringla, Canada’s Icelandic Community newspaper.
