Mark Leiren-Young

Mark Leiren-Young is a Canadian journalist, screenwriter, playwright, and occasional performer in the comedy duo Local Anxiety. He’s interviewed celebrity A-listers for the Georgia Straight. Wrote, directed and produced The Green Chain, exploring logging industry in BC. Leiren-Young was the 1993 recipient of a National Magazine award for his Theatrum column and has received two Western Magazine awards, the latest presented in 2013. Leiren-Young has also received three Writers Guild of Canada nominations for his work in radio and film. His latest book, The Killer Whale Who Changed the World (Greystone), was first conceived as an article for the Walrus and developed into a CBC Radio broadcast based on the story of the first publicly exhibited captive killer whale.
