Leanne Betasamosake Simpson is of Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg ancestry and a member of Alderville First Nation. She is a gifted writer and articulate advocate who works in a wide range of genres, from spoken word to oral storytelling to critical analysis. Recent books include The Gift is in the Making (Highwater), a retelling of Anishinaabeg stories, and Islands of Decolonial Love (Arbeiter Ring), short stories about contemporary Indigenous Peoples. She is part of the Kino-nda-niimii editorial collective for The Winter We Danced: Voices from the Past, the Future, and the Idle No More Movement (Arbeiter Ring). Simpson holds a PhD from the University of Manitoba and lives now in southern Ontario.
