Basma Kavanagh

Basma Kavanagh is a poet and visual artist who has lived and worked in Cape Breton, on Vancouver Island, in the Arabian Gulf, in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, and in Brandon, Manitoba, in each place creating work determined by her surroundings. Her work has been exhibited across Nova Scotia, in British Columbia, Manitoba, Qatar, and the US, and included in books and magazines in Canada, the US, and the UK. Following two collections celebrated for their linguistic acuity and passion for the natural world, her new collection is Ruba’iyat for the Time of Apricots (Frontenac), an exploration of womanhood, language, tradition, and identity. Kavanagh currently lives in Nova Scotia.
