Ondjaki

Ondjaki was born in Luanda, Angola. He has written novels, short-story collections, film scripts, and numerous books of poems and stories for children, and his books have been translated from Portuguese into more than a dozen languages. In 2012 The Guardian named him one of its “Top Five African Writers.” His novel, Os Transparentes, blends magical realism, scathing political satire, tender comedy, and literary experimentation to depict life in modern day Luanda. It won several awards, including Portugal’s prestigious José Saramago Prize, and is now being published in Canada as Transparent City (biblioasis) in an English translation by Stephen Henighan. Ondjaki lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
