Sarah Klassen lives, reads and writes poetry and fiction in Winnipeg. Her interest in writing was sparked during her years teaching high school English. Her work has appeared in literary journals across Canada and in the US. Awards include: The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, two National Magazine Awards for poetry. The Canadian Authors Award for poetry; And for fiction, the High Plains and Margaret McWiliams Awards.
Born in Manitoba’s Interlake, Sarah Klassen learned at an early age to appreciate both birdsong and nature’s silence. An accomplished poet and fiction writer, she has won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award for Journey to Yalta, the High Plains Award for Fiction for A Feast of Longing, the Canadian Authors Association Award for Poetry for A Curious Beatitude, and the National Magazine Gold Award for Poetry. She has been nominated for the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award, the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction, and the Aqua Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. Her collection of poetry is Monstrance (Turnstone). Klassen lives in Winnipeg.
