Mary Swan

Mary Swan’s short stories have been widely published in Canada and the US. “The Deep” won the 2001 O. Henry Award for short fiction and appeared the following year in The Deep and Other Stories. Her new book, a novel, The Boys in the Trees (HB Fenn), unfolds a grisly story of murder and intrigue in small-town Ontario at the turn of the 20th century. The New York Times Book Review praises the book’s “tense, rhythmic and emotionally evocative” prose, and Alice Munro calls it “a mesmerizing novel, that can truly claim to be filled with a ‘terrible beauty.’” Mary Swan lives with her husband and daughter in Guelph ON.
