Join us for a wild ride into the apocalypse with novelist MARK MORTON and learn how to craft your own dystopian worlds! (Ages 13-19)
Aaaah! It’s the End of the World…. and if you’re an aspiring teenage writer, this is your chance to learn some strategies for creating your own dystopian fiction with writer Mark Morton!
** Venue change – this event is now happening at the McNally Robinson Community Classroom, 1120 Grant Avenue. **
Dystopian short stories and novels (like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Divergent, Oryx and Crake, and The Handmaid’s Tale, to name only a few) are among the most exciting and thought-provoking forms of speculative fiction.
In this workshop, author Mark Morton will first talk a bit about his own process in writing The Headmasters and will then talk about the key elements that are needed in dystopian fiction. He’ll then have the participants do a quick exercise that will help them get started on creating their own dystopian world, and then participants will share some of their dystopian ideas with one another!
