Secrets from a Messy Office

The final product of writing may be smooth and pure, but production can resemble hacking a path through a jungle. Feedback from friends, multiple drafts, finding a publisher and/or agent, enjoying editors and still more drafts–these are all a sunny holiday compared to actually writing words during long hours at a desk. This session’s tips and stories will illuminate the whole process. Plus advice for your actual words on the page!

Adam Lewis Schroeder is the author of the short-fiction collection Kingdom of Monkeys, shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Award, and the novels Empress of Asia and In the Fabled East, which was a finalist for the 2011 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book, Canada/Caribbean region. His new novel is All Day Breakfast, a surprisingly heartfelt zombie novel. Schroeder teaches creative writing at UBC Okanagan.

Registration includes coffee & tea. Pick up a light snack before-hand at the Human Bean on the main floor.

The seminar is directed toward people with a strong interest in writing, but no publishing experience is required.

Advance registration is no longer available, as we have moved out of the office for the duration of the festival. Please register at the door.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
