Michael Christie

A former professional skateboarder, Michael Christie received an MFA from the University of British Columbia. His first book, The Beggar’s Garden, won the City of Vancouver Book Award, and If I Fall, If I Die was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. His most recent novel, Greenwood (McClelland & Stewart), tells a story of inheritance, sacrifice, nature, and love that takes its structure from the nested growth rings of a tree. Rights have been sold in seven countries.

Christie divides his time between Victoria and Galliano Island, British Columbia, where he lives with his family in a timber frame house that he built himself.
